It's a very satisfying read from an intelligent and talented author. He can also express utter joy in a way many authors would love to be able to do.

He can make you feel the full jolt under the heart from bereavement, the lack of purpose felt by those who experience it. Seb is a master at writing emotion without overdoing it. There is much to admire about Seb Kirby's knowledge of the art world and there's plotting and deceipt in the criminal underworld to contend with too. The plot moves fast and often surprisingly. 'This is a wonderful novel from a new author and I hope it will be the first of many.

That seamlessness is the hallmark of a gifted writer. Kirby's spare yet rich prose, his perfect word choices, made this a work that appeared to be effortlessly constructed. I walked in the hero's shoes, was privy to his thoughts and intruded on his emotions as he was drawn into the mystery of his wife's death. 'It was a few pages before I realized what I was reading: a sort of modern noir.
